Blending absurdity, trauma, and humor, Songs for the Unwanted is a richly layered monograph on Austrian artist Gernot Wieland. Known for his voiceover-driven films that merge drawing, claymation, and philosophical narration, Wieland builds a world where autobiography, fiction, and psychoanalysis converge.

The book spans over a decade of work, featuring stills and scripts from films such as Ink in Milk and Thievery and Songs, alongside installations, texts, and diaristic drawings. Marie Darrieussecq contributes a haunting literary reflection that mirrors Wieland’s exploration of memory, repression, and emotional dissonance.
